Xcene Research Academy

We are enthused to announce the launch of our new project called The Xcene Research Academy.

The Interactive training is a yearly program for Clinical Research Professionals and designed for entry-level and burgeoning clinical research and trial enthusiasts with backgrounds in Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, and Life Sciences seeking to make impacts in the clinical research space.  

The program to be delivered by industry experts is poised to provide each attendee with a hands-on training module covering their respective job functions and all facets of clinical research.  

Xcene Research understands that researchers make an active difference in developing industry-changing interventions, and the academy is poised to meet the demands of ongoing clinical trials in Africa, increase the medical research workforce and train high-quality entry-level CRAs to have a pool of skilled professionals in the clinical research industry.  

 Academy Structure  

Who is the program designed for?  

The program is designed for Clinical Research Associates, Clinical Trial Associates, Site Managers, Project Managers, Regulatory Affairs Specialists, Clinical Investigators, Clinical Research Data Managers and all individuals who have a passion for making a difference in clinical research.  

The objectives of the program are as follows:  

• Describe the drug development process, the importance of Good Clinical Practice, and the roles and responsibilities of the research team 

• Define the regulatory requirements, explain the differences between ICH GCP and country regulatory guidelines, and describe the elements of a protocol 

• Provide the tools and best practices needed to ensure successful trial management and the groundwork for continuous improvement. 

• Exposure to functional roles in clinical research including, regulatory, drug safety, data processing, trails management, medicals, and trial coordination team.   

• Develop, strengthen, and increase capacity in clinical research across the diverse clinical development ecosystem.  

• Establish foundational knowledge needed to ensure compliant monitoring of human clinical studies – from patient recruitment to post-marketing activities.

To harness leadership and achieve outcomes that would help more Africans lead better lives, the academy aims to bridge the noticeable gap of clinical research in Africa’s next generation of researchers. With the academy curriculum, researchers across the ecosystem will have a comprehensive source of intelligence on international and regional clinical trial capabilities and processes.  

Ultimately, this would contribute to an increase in the number of clinical trials and research personnel on the continent and, in time, accelerate access to innovative medicines for patients in Africa.
